  2. did you know any Swedish before going on exchange? Was it hard to learn, how did you cope once you were in Sweden? Sorry for all the questions...i'm just trying to convince my parents to let me go on exchange. Thanks.

  3. Svannah thanks! I'm pretty sure I'm going to try to put them in my suitcase to take back to the US with me!

Before I came to Sweden, I knew hello (hej) and goodbye (hejdå). So basically I knew nothing. It was a little hard to learn becuase Swedish has the Å, Ä, and Ö which don't exist in English. Bit now I can understand almost everything. It's more difficult for me to speak becuase I'm really bad at putting the words in the right order. But it's different for every person. My friend who is also an exchange student in Sweden is fluent now in Swedsih. Coping wasn't really that much of a problem for me, but it didn't hit me until two days before i came here that I was actually leaving for a year, so the first week was pretty hard, but after that it was much better, and I've only been homesick around thanksgiving time. The best things that I think helped with me not being homesick and everything was I made sure I kept busy. The more plans you have and the more things you do, the less you'll think about home. You kind of go through phases while you're on exchange. The first phase is the honeymoon stage were everything is new and you're doing and seeing things you've never done or seen before. Most likely before you come you should do culture trek, which helps you prepare for you exchange. I remember in that about the three S's. Suprise, stress, and shock. The suprise comes when you just get here and everything all cool and new, then the stress of everything being new. Then the stress of everything being new and how you're going to learn everything. Then is the shock where you feelings take over and you get pretty overwelmed. I remember going through all of that in the first month and a half. Going on exchange is the challengest thing I've ever done in my life, but it is 100% worth it. I've learned so much and it's the most rewarding thing I've ever done. I my view life and the world has completely changed, and I would do it over again in a heart beat!
I hope I answered your questions well enough! If you wonder about anything let me know and I will try to help you the best I can!

  5. How did the exchange to Finland go??

  6. It went pretty okay, the weather was really bad in Finland while we were there, and Helsinki is really small compared to Stockholm, but the boat ride back was really fun. :) But mainly it was nice just to get out of school and hang out with all the other exchange students.
